The Ultimate Collection

Within the classic car segment one can find real treasures. Some cars have reached icon status over the years because of their beautiful design, others have gained world fame by starring in Hollywood blockbusters. We would like to share what we think would be the ultimate collection of classic cars to buy and own. The following list is in now particular order.
The Lamborghini Miura P400 SV set new standards at its time with the iconic V12 engine and a record breaking 0 – 100 time of 6,7 seconds. At its debut, it was the fastest production car in the world with a top speed of 280km/h.
The poster car Lamborghini Countach has always been a desirable piece of art. The movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013 brought this car back to our attention. Along with the outrageous design around the scissor doors came outstanding performance and a top speed exceeding 300km/h.
It is commonly known that classic cars, especially Ferraris, sometimes sell for incredible amounts of money at auctions. One of the models that appreciated significantly over the last decades is the Ferrari 250 GT SWB. A 1960 car in great condition recently sold for more than $10 million at an auction.
Another model from the brand with the prancing horse that cracked the $1 million limit in value is the 250 GT Lusso. Right-hand-drive versions have been sold at auctions for approximately $2,4 million.
Not all desirable classic cars have to be million dollar supercars though. Neither do they have to be Italian. The best example comes from a British company. Classic Range Rover have proven to be very reliable and emerged to one of the best off-roading cars in the world.
Another car, that does not quite reach the supercar status, yet should be part of any classic collection is the world’s first hot hatchback car: the iconic Peugeot 205 GTI. The small yet quick and agile car sets the standards for today’s Golf GTI, Audi RS3 or other hot hatches. In 2016, a special example in mint condition sold at auction for $36.000.
Launched at the 1966 Paris Auto Salon, the Ferrari 275 GTB4 is a must-have for any classic car collection. A timeless Italian design by Pininfarina makes this car a real eye-catcher.
The Maserati Ghibli 5000 SS was limited to only 1124 units and fascinated car fans in the 1970s with a sporty coupe design and a V8 that produced 335 horsepower. With a top speed of 280km/h it was playing in the same league as the Ferraris and Lamborghinis of that time.
The German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz brought us the delightful Mercedes 190 SL. This iconic and classy roadster is the perfect car for a cruise to the beach on a sunny summer's day. This model manages to keep its value quite steady and therefore makes a good addition to any collection.
Alfa Romeo has made a name for itself as a company that builds beautiful and passionate Italian cars. The 1962 Giulietta Spider is no exception. This small yet quick and fun convertible convinces with design lines to die for.
With the 300SL Gullwing, Mercedes created a car that would guarantee a big entrance wherever you arrive. The unique door design has turned this car into a wallpaper icon and one of the most famous models Mercedes ever produced. Hand-built from lightweight materials like aluminium, the 300SL was more than just a beautiful work of art, it also delivered the matching performance figures. Prices for good examples nowadays exceed the $1 million mark.
Every classic car collection has to have a couple of Ferraris. The Dino 246GT is definitely one of them. This beautiful small sports car from the 1970s was the first road-going Ferrari without a big V12 engine. Instead, the car was powered by a 2,4-litre V6, which meant it was more affordable than the bigger V12 models. With prices around $500.000, it has definitely increased in value and lost its initial image of being a “cheap” Ferrari.
Volvo is a brand many people do not instantly associate with the words “speed”, “performance” or “sports cars”. However, in the 1960s and 1970s, the brand introduced the legendary P1800 and P1800 ES models. With their powerful V8s and appealing design, they found their place between top dogs like Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari. The last version of the car, the P1800 ES featured one very unique and, for its time, futuristic item: an all-glass rear hatch. Instead of having a hatch with a window, like most other estates, you would have to open the entire glass panel to access the trunk. Because of its unique design and the large glass panels, the car was given the nickname “Snow White’s Coffin” in some countries.
When Jaguar introduced the E-Type, Enzo Ferrari himself called it the most beautiful car ever made. Coming from a man, that was responsible for poster cars like the F40, this means a lot. The iconic British sports car entered a market of average looking cars with a beautiful design and a promised top speed of more than 150 mph. It was ahead of its time and therefore became a great success. Today it is a stunning looking classic car and a must-have for every car collection.
One of the greatest sports car manufacturers in Great Britain has to be Aston Martin. With a history of legendary classic and modern cars, the brand has reached world fame for building luxurious grand touring cars and sports cars. Three of the most iconic models are the DB4, DB5 and DB6. Stylish design, great sound and luxurious comfort were only some of the characteristics for these models. Because it starred in multiple James Bond movies, the DB5 in particular is a very sought after car. Yet all of these should have a space in the Ultimate Classic Car Collection.
